디노포네라기간티아(학명: Dinoponera gigantea)는 몸무게는 2~3g 정도, 몸길이 3~4cm 정도[1]의 세계에서 가장 큰 개미이다.[2]
특징[편집]
- 식성: 육식을 하며, 대개 먹이는 곤충이지만, 양서류나 파충류같이 자신보다 큰 적에게도 달려들어 먹이로 삼는다.
- 무기: 큰턱과 독침이 무기이다. 개미의 독침은 대부분 퇴화되었지만, 디노포네라기간티는 희귀하게도 지금까지 독침을 가지고 있다. 이 독침은 독의 양이 많아 사람이 찔릴 경우, 호흡곤란이 오거나 의식을 잃을 수 있다.
