Dongpirang Village is a village located in Dongho-dong, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam- do, situated on a hill behind the Jungang Market . [1]

The name of this village, located behind Jungang Market, Tongyeong City's representative fish market, is 'Dongpirang', meaning 'eastern cliff' ('Birang' in the local dialect of slope). Ganggu Port can be seen from above Dongpirang Village, and murals are painted on every wall along the winding uphill alley . The redevelopment plan for the mountainside village around Jeongnyang-dong and Taepyeong-dong in Tongyeong-si has been changed and revised several times. [2]

The word quickly spread through vibrant murals, attracting throngs of visitors and fostering widespread public support for the preservation of the village. A pivotal turning point occurred when the decision-makers opted to spare just three houses at the pinnacle of the village, which were indispensable for the restoration of Dongporu, leading to the complete abandonment of the demolition plan. Consequently, what was once slated for destruction transformed into a captivating new destination in Tongyeong, drawing tourists in droves, captivated by its captivating murals.[1] This locale, with its unparalleled coastal vistas from the hillside village, endures as a cherished, long-standing home for low-income residents. Dongporu[편집]

Dongpirang Village is the site of Dongporu (東砲樓) of Jeongjeyeong (統制營) installed by General Yi Sun-sin (李舜臣) during the Joseon Dynasty. There were plans to demolish the village, restore Dongporu, and create a park around it, but in October 2007, a civic group called 'Blue Tongyeong 21' held the 'Dongpirang Coloring - National Mural Contest', and students and individuals from art colleges across the country participated. 18 teams will paint murals on old walls to preserve the village.
